Cosplay Contest at Power-Con 2017

Power-Con 2017 wants to see you bring our favorite Masters of the Universe and Princess of Power characters to life. Are you ready to scare the masses with your Skeletor? Impress the audience with your She-Ra? We can’t wait to see everyone in their cosplay!

If you plan to attend the show in costume, we are hosting a contest for all cosplayers who dress as a Masters of the Universe or Princess of Power character, complete with cash prizes!

• One “Grand Prize Winner” will receive a prize package consisting of a check in the amount of $500.00.
• One “First Runner-Up” will receive a prize package consisting of a check in the amount of $250.00.
• One “Second Runner-Up” will receive a prize package consisting of a check in the amount of $125.00.
• Four “Honorable Mentions” will each receive a prize package consisting of a check in the amount of $25.00.

Contest guidelines:
• Entries must be characters from, or inspired by, Masters of the Universe and/or Princess of Power
• Contestants must report to the outside of the main panel room by 4:30pm Pacific Time on Saturday, September 9, 2017 to check in with the master of ceremonies.
• Following reporting and following MC instructions, Contestants must be present, lined up and organized for the contest in the main panel room on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 5:30pm Pacific Time.
• Contest will be judged by a panel of professional cosplayers and/or professional artists. Their decisions are final.

• The Cosplay Entry Form must be filled out and delivered to the Registration area at the convention on Saturday, September 9, 2017 before 3:00pm Pacific Time.

Writer James “Busta Toons” Eatock worked on The Art of He-Man and the Masters of the UniverseHe-Man and the Masters of the Universe: A Complete Guide — the official guide to the Filmation He-Man and She-Ra cartoon series, and the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Character Guide and World Compendium, all published by Dark Horse Comics.

In addition to publishing his magazine cereal:geek, James runs the Official He-Man YouTube Channel, worked on the first BCI DVD releases of He-Man and She-Ra, and co-wrote an in-depth guide to the original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon series for Mattel that was used in conjunction with the production of the Mike Young Productions cartoon series of the same name.

Chelsea Field attending Power-Con 2017

Chelsea Field is known to He-Man fans for her portrayal of Teela in the 1987 live action Masters of the Universe motion picture.

Ms. Fields has also appeared in countless television series including NCIS, Without A Trace, Cold Case, and Tales from the Crypt.

Gus Park attending Power-Con 2017

Gus Park portrayed Ninjor and provided fight choreography work for the Masters of the Universe Power Tour that visited 35 cities, including venues coast to coast from Radio City Music Hall to the LA Sports Arena. Gus has now worked on various movies, TV shows, commercials, and music videos as an actor, stunt man, and grip.

Volunteer at Power-Con 2017

Power-Con gladly welcomes some good volunteers to help in this year’s fan convention expo. If you are motivated, upbeat individual who is flexible and wants to meet a lot of new people then volunteering is right for you!

Being a Volunteer comes with perks!

  • Volunteers must work at least 4 hours worth of shifts, and will earn credit to put towards your pass or exclusives. For example, one 4 hour shift would cover a weekend pass and provide you additional credit that you can collect or put towards another pass or exclusives.

Keep in mind that volunteer positions fill up quickly so do not delay in applying.

All Volunteers must initially purchase their pass to the convention. If you already purchased an Attendee pass to insure you would get the Power-Con exclusives, be sure to include your order number when you contact us. Approved Volunteer applicants who also perform their volunteer duties at the show will be credited within 30 days after the convention has ended. More info will be provided during the application process.

Rudy Obrero attending Power-Con 2017

You will recognize the legendary Masters of the Universe illustrator Rudy Obrero from such works as the original box art featured on the Battle Cat packaging. Obrero has even returned to work on Masters of the Universe Classics, providing the box art to the new Wind Raider and the maps that came with the MOTUC subscriptions.

Mr. Obrero’s versatility is evident in the full spectrum of work he does for his broad range of clients. He is the style guide artist for E.T., Woody Woodpecker, Peter Pan, The Scorpion King, The Mummy Returns, Universal Monsters, Curious George, Sitting Ducks and The Power Rangers. Rudy’s art has even expanded to other countries as he has done art for businesses in Japan, and England. He designed the exclusive Liberian Millennium Silver Dollar coin. His recent projects have included posters for The Cat in the Hat and Digimon The Movie.

Jack and Leslie Wadsworth attending Power-Con 2017

Jack and Leslie Wadsworth portrayed the most powerful man in the universe and princess of power herself, He-Man and She-Ra, on the Masters of the Universe Power Tour.

A three million dollar production, the live stage event featured He-Man, his sister She-Ra, and assorted warriors and wizards from the faraway planets Eternia and Etheria. The “high-tech extravaganza” featured a music-driven storyline and was described as offering clashing armies, dazzling magical feats, and even a roller derby, in addition to troupes of acrobats and dancers.

Jonboy Meyers is a published author and an illustrator of children’s and young adult books. He worked on the recent DC Comics He-Man: Eternity War series as well as the MVCreations Masters of the Universe comic book series, including interior pages for the Rise of the Snake Men mini-series.

Meyers‘ other credits include: The Inhumans, Teen Titans, Spawn, G.I. Joe, Black Dynamite, Thor, Generator Rex (animation), Supergirl, Huntress, She Hulk, Hulk, Spider-Man, Arana, Gen 13, Ninja Scroll, Danger Girl, Justice League of America, X-Men (comic books), League of Legends, Motor Storm Apocalypse (video games), World of Warcraft TCG (illustration), Marvel Heroes MMO (Gazillion Entertainment).

Gabe Khouth is a voice actor who portrayed Orko and Mekaneck in the 2002 Mike Young Productions He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and Masters of the Universe vs the SnakeMen. 

In addition to He-Man, you’ve heard Gabe’s voice in such programs as Dragonball Z, InuYasha, X-Men:  Evolution, Hot Wheels: Battle Force 5 and more!
